NACCHO AGM Highlights Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Sector Strength and Unity

The Aboriginal Health Council of SA Inc. (AHCSA) congratulates Mr Justin Mohamed who was re-elected Chair of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) Board at the recent Annual General Meeting where over 200 delegates attended from community controlled Aboriginal health services across urban, regional and remote Australia.

AHCSA Chief Executive Officer Mary Buckskin said, “Mr Mohamed has made great inroads for the Aboriginal community controlled health sector within a changing, reform orientated health environment. His re-election highlights the sector’s continuing strength and unity as they demonstrate their support for the work of the NACCHO Board and Secretariat under his leadership.”

AHCSA also welcomes the newly elected Deputy Chair of NACCHO Mr Matthew Cooke who is the Deputy Chair of the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council and CEO of the Nhulundu Wooribah Indigenous Health Organisation Inc. in Gladstone.

“Matthew represents the future of our sector. The combination of his management experience within an Aboriginal community controlled health environment, combined with his youth and passion, can only benefit our sector,” Ms Buckskin said.

AHCSA Chairperson Yvonne Buza, who attended the NACCHO AGM, said “In this challenging context of national health reform, developing and maintaining strong partnerships with key organisations will be essential for NACCHO to positively impact on Aboriginal health outcomes. Under Justin’s continued leadership, I am confident that NACCHO will engage in strong collaborative partnerships that enhance and maximise the impact of Aboriginal community controlled health sector activity.”
