Accreditation Support | Return to Our Services
AHCSA provides support to assist Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) and Substance Misuse Services in South Australia to achieve accreditation against clinical and organisation standards.
The 2007-08 Budget measure ‘A Better Future for Indigenous Australians - Establishing Quality Health Standards’ (EQHS) sets out an expectation that all ACCHSs funded by the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health be accredited against Australian health care standards by June 2011.
Eligible organisations are those which receive the majority of their funding for primary health care service delivery from OATSIH, including:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled health organisations (ACCHSs);
- Substance use service providers; and
- Social and emotional wellbeing service providers, including Link-up services and Bringing Them Home counselling services.
Support is provided through the Accreditation Support Officer (ASO) position to assist services with the practical and strategic components required to qualify for full accreditation status for the services they provide or, if already accredited, to maintain accreditation. This position is funded until June 2011.
Resources
There are several resources which are available to support services in planning and achieving accreditation.
These resources include:
- OATSIH Accreditation Manual
- RACGP Interpretive Guide
- QIC Interpretive Guide
- Aboriginal Health Service Policy and Procedure Manual Template
Copies in PDF form of these documents are available on request from the AHCSA ASO.
AHCSA is working with other Affiliate representatives and NACCHO to influence the development of accreditation and quality improvement support after the end of the EQHS budget measure in June 2011. As this process continues AHCSA will ensure that the Member services' views are sought and included in any deliberations.
If you would like any further information on accreditation for your health service please contact Paul Ryan, Accreditation Support Officer on 8273 7200.
